Overview - Good Health Pass Collaborative
- Charles Walton explained that many organizations are working on different version of a health passport. Challenges facing all of them include identity binding, interoperability and complying with government regulations to provide an assurance of safety to all travellers.
- Taking a vaccination credential, binding it securely to a person's identity and making that useable in a digital wallet is a tall order, especially under tight timeframes - aim to have a blueprint that defines "what good looks like" by end of Q2 2021.
- The Good Health Pass Collaborative offers willing companies and organizations with a place to work together. Trust over IP has been asked to provide its leadership and expertise in developing a digital trust framework.
ID2020 - role in Good Health Pass
- Todd Gehrke explained that ID2020 has existed since 2016 to help shape the market and support activities that advance digital identity applications.
- ID2020 has taken on a program management role in the Good Health Pass Collaborative.
- Priority is to produce a shared framework that can bring various credible immunization and test credentials together.
Good Health Pass Taskforce - Introduction
- Drummond Reed provided an overview of how Trust over IP intends to contribute to the Good Health Pass effort.
- The main output from our community will be an ecosystem governance framework that builds on Trust over IP's governance meta-model.
- This "umbrella" framework will support overall interoperability for an ecosystem-of-ecosystems model. It will be achieved, in part, by addressing seven key interoperability challenges:
- Consistent User Experience
- Data Models and Elements
- Credential Formats, Signatures, and Exchange Protocols
- Security and Privacy Architecture
- Trust Registries
- Rules Engines
- Identity Binding
- All Trust over IP members are welcome and encouraged to participate in this Taskforce. A schedule of recurring meetings will be announced shortly.
CCI and Paper Credentials
- Kaliya Young discussed the need for emerging digital approaches to COVID vaccination and test credentials to work alongside paper records that will continue to be in use, and are important to individuals who do not have access to mobile/digital tools.
- COVID Credentials Initiative (CCI) includes over 400 organizations working on these problems, and is using the Governance Framework previously developed through Trust over IP.
- A Paper-based VC Summit is being planned for (tentatively) Thursday, March 4. All are invited to connect with Kaliya Young directly for more details.
Open Discussion
- Steve Maggenis asked if the Good Health Pass Collaborative will include test as well as vaccination records.
- Drummond Reed confirmed that it would.
- John Jordan observed that these hard problems are precisely what Trust over IP was created to help solve.
- Charles Walton suggested that getting this set of problems right for the travel industry potentially opens many additional future use case for verifiable credentials across many industries.
- John Jordan concurred, adding that secure and frictionless transactions will move us closer to trusted peer-to-peer exchanges that require no mediation.
- Karl Kneis indicated a need to better understand what commitments may already have been made to specific technologies or models under Good Health Pass overall.
